1.2.3. Idols, The Inspiration to Keep Learning & Chasing a Dream

THREE QUICK BITES TO enhance YOUR PIZZA GAME

ONE

Idols are inspirations. They are important to have. They help us see things in other people that we want ourselves. They may be a chef, author, director, president, musician or a parent. I have a few people I really admire. I don’t even know if the actual person is what I admire or if it’s the idea of that person that is the true inspiration.

Meeting people that really inspired me when I was in music was always kind of met with a man behind the curtain vibe. People aren’t gods, no matter how famous they are or what’s in their bank account. People at the end of the day always end up being just that… people. What’s inspiring to me is listening to how someone got where they are. What makes them wake up and keep ticking so fast and hard.

It’s not the actual person I admire or find inspiring. It’s the story. Its the hard work, how they fought through adversity and their opinions on struggle, life love and the pursuit of doing what ever the fuck they wanted. I love a person’s confidence, talent, honesty and watching them make the magic they know they are capable of making. That’s inspiring to me.

Here are some people that have really helped inspire my road map. Kanye West, Virgil Abloh, Guy Fieri and Mac Demarco. Who do you admire?

TWO

I just bought another outdoor pizza oven to try out. It’s a Halo Versa. I am always looking for a better way to cook pizzas at home and for the pop up. Excited to give it a try. I will report back my findings!

Anyway check out this list you may have missed of my top 5 favorite things I have for home pizza making.

THREE

“Life is so short you can’t waste even a day subscribing to what someone thinks you can do versus knowing what you can do”

Virgil Abloh

Virgil and Ye specifically inspire me to be me. To learn more about everything, learn more about myself, to keep going as hard as possible. I am not a “designer” or an “architect” but the way Virgil shares his knowledge, and insights on design has become part of my personal ethos in the restaurant sphere.

He is a huge inspiration for writing these letters every week. To share whatever knowledge I have along the way in hopes it helps or inspires someone else. It’s easy to put limits on yourself because the world naturally thinks following a dream is “a crazy idea.” It’s important to be able to get directions when you get stuck on the side of the road. That’s what I use my idols for.

Extra Slice: This is one of my favorite talks Virgil gave. It takes the cake for me because people literally start throwing their sneakers at him at the end to sign and he does just that.

Love, crust and pizza dust,

Alex
