1.2.3. Putting Your Values Into Practice

Hey, It’s Alex,

A lot of people talk about culture in the restaurant industry, but often it remains something written on paper rather than put into practice.

Building a thriving culture is deeply tied to your personal belief system and is actually quite challenging to establish. Anyone can jot down a vision statement or inspirational dogma for business culture, but living it is essential.

You must infuse it into the relationships you foster both inside and outside of the business.

How you operate your business reflects on yourself, so leading by example, maintaining constant accountability, and showing empathy are crucial. These qualities are what truly help build a culture where everyone feels safe, valued, and enjoys coming to work because they know it’s an authentic environment with genuine people giving their best.

Most importantly living the values and not just writing it down somewhere.

“Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.”

– Frank Zappa
