1.2.3. Our Sense of Fulfilment and the Distractions of Material Success

Hey it’s Alex,

The Rainbow Fish has become a bedtime favorite in our household, and what initially seemed like a simple tale about sharing, for me, has taken on a profound meaning of service.

In the story, the Rainbow Fish possesses coveted shiny scales but struggles with the idea of sharing them with others.

Through guidance from a wise octopus, the Rainbow Fish learns that true happiness stems from generosity.

This narrative reflects the truth that our choices shape our sense of fulfillment and the quality of our relationships. Sometimes, amidst the distractions of material success, I find the greatest joy in serving others rather than accumulating wealth or accolades.

True fulfillment lies not in possessions but in our willingness to give, support, and uplift those around us—be they friends, family, or strangers.

As the Rainbow Fish gives away all its scales, it discovers the profound joy of seeing others delight in the shared beauty. In this act of selflessness, the Rainbow Fish feels not diminished but enriched, finding greater completeness in giving a part of itself away.

I think the meaning of life is service, and I’m going to take the advice of the wise octopus myself, and not hesitate to give away what I can so I can see those around me shine.
