1.2.3. Daunting Changes For Your Business of For Yourself

Hey, it’s Alex,

Over the past two-plus years since Hot Tongue opened, I’ve made a lot of changes to my business model.

Some were pretty extreme, and all of them were daunting.

The journey has been full of ups and downs, not just as a new business but also, navigating the unpredictable landscape of Los Angeles. With the pandemic, Hollywood strikes, and the state of the economy, everyone is dealing with their own struggles.

Change is tough because it demands effort.

That’s probably why many of us struggle to stick to diets, exercise routines, or remain open to new ideas. It can feel overwhelming to examine things deeply or reconsider our core values.

Over the last two years, I’ve often felt like I was riding a bull, just holding on for dear life. But through that chaos, I’ve learned some crucial lessons—mainly, not clinging too tightly to any single thought, belief, or way of doing business.

Many people believe you need to hold on to the same ideals your whole life, but that mindset leaves little room for true growth or for listening to others. I’ve done a lot of both over the years.

Being willing to adapt—whether it’s adjusting my prices, my business concept, or even my moral compass—has saved both my business and myself from greater harm.

I’m still on that bull, and its been a long 8 seconds. But I know that when it’s over, I’ll look back and romanticize all the chaos that’s now in the past because struggles are only temporary. Everything, eventually, comes to an end.

Don’t be afraid to change for your business or for yourself.

Any pain is temporary.

We considered hopping on the burrata trend.

While it does make for a beautiful photo, I think I’m going to stick with the classics. That said, it’s still a delicious topping, and this one was definitely a hit!
