Hey, it’s Alex—
One of the most crucial tools in my restaurant is the trusty checklist. I often tell clients that a checklist is the be-all and end-all when you’re not around. It’s a game-changer for keeping everyone on the same page and steering the ship in the right direction, especially when things get hectic.
It took me a while to figure out that if you want people to truly understand what’s expected, sometimes you’ve just got to spell it out – maybe that’s where the whole “read the writing on the wall” saying came from. In the restaurant world, miscommunication is a constant threat; someone can easily misinterpret or twist your words.
That’s where a trusty checklist and well-defined processes come to the rescue. Even now, if I go off-script without those proper channels, chaos tends to creep in real fast.
I use this same method in my personal life to ensure I stay on track too. A well-thought-out day with the right routines typically leads to more success than going without a plan of attack. Never underestimate the power of a checklist or a properly written recipe. For food or your life!
“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”
