Hey, it’s Alex—
Knowledge is power…
…or at least that’s what they say, right?
Matt and I are working on a new YouTube segment where I go clock in at someone else’s pizza shop. It’s sort of like Dirty Jobs meets Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
We did our first shoot last week with Paul over at Pie Trap in Covina, and it was a pure delight.
Working in a new environment and taking direction from someone else was such a refreshing reminder to me of how easily I get stuck in my own way of thinking.
Just being at Paul’s shop and hanging out with his team for the short time we were there was enlightening.
Sometimes, I daydream about not being in charge.
And I welcome the perspective I gain from someone else telling me how they want things to be done once in a while.
Paul is running an incredible program over there, and it’s truly inspiring. It was a humbling experience, one that reminded me of how much there is to learn and the importance of continual growth.
“We don’t grow old. When we cease to grow, we become old.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

One of the things I’ve learned about shooting reels and taking food photos for Hot Tongue is just how important natural light is. The sun cannot be matched by any filter. There is something magical about the far window at Hot Tongue. It can feel like I’m cheating sometimes. The light it emits and the shadows it creates are absolutely beautiful.
