Hey, it’s Alex—
“Treat people like you want to be treated” is a clear enough saying, yet implementing it is not as straightforward.
When frustration sets in, it’s easy to lose our cool. We often carry our past with us, whether it’s a bad morning affecting our afternoon or lifelong negative experiences.
The kitchen and restaurant industry, in particular, is a hotbed of emotions that must be managed quickly and often without much thought.
It’s wise to take a breath and pause when things get chaotic.
Before making decisions or having conversations, ask yourself: “Is this really me talking, or is it the frustrations and bad experiences I’ve been carrying around for the day, week, or years?”
It’s taken me a long time to realize that I am not my emotions and I am not my thoughts.
It’s going to take me a lifetime to remember to not react, but to respond.
Whether in the kitchen or at home, seeing things outside of myself will be worth it because I refuse to let the past guide all my decisions.
